COVID-19 Developments
Much has happened in the last few days affecting Kansas workers and businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak.
On Friday, March 27, President Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). The CARES Act provides direct cash payments to qualifying individuals and certain small business owners a $10,000 advance on an Economic Injury Disaster Loan. There is quite an intensive list of programs, grants, and assistance within the CARES Act. If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. More details about the small business loan can be found at https://www.sba.gov/disaster/apply-for-disaster-loan/index.html.
On Saturday, March 28, Governor Kelly signed Executive Order 20-16. It establishes a statewide “stay home” order, effective on Monday, March 30. It does make some exceptions for certain workers and various activities. The full order can be found at https://governor.kansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/EO20-16.pdf.
On Tuesday, March 31, Governor Kelly signed Executive Order 20-17, which makes temporary changes to Kansas employment security law to ensure Kansas can draw federal dollars under the federal CARES Act. This order will allow flexibility for Kansas workers and small-business owners to secure the safety and protection that unemployment insurance is designed to provide in times of crisis. The full order can be found at https://governor.kansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/EO-20-17-Executed.pdf.
